AWARENESS AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE OF AGRICULTURAL STAFFS IN THUA THIEN HUE PROVINCE IN RESPONSE TO CLIMATE CHANGE

Abstract

This study aims to explore perceptions and experience of agricultural staffs at all levels in response to climate change in order to identify measures of improving the adaptive capacity and responsibility for local people. Eighty eight staffs of the agricultural departments on the scale of Thua Thien Hue were interviewed to collect information for this study. In addition, secondary information from different sources was collected for analysis. The results shows that the awareness of agricultural staffs at all levels of climate change and their responses to climate change remain limited. A large percentage of respondents do not have research experiences, they do not participate in planning or implementing policies and activities related to climate change as well. Such limitations has significantly affected the building of adaptive capacity for climate change for local people. The lack of incentives and policies to encourage staffs to participate in agricultural researches, and the lack of specific programs to enhance staff capacity are the main factors leading to these limitations.

Keywords: climate change, agricultural staff, adaptive capacity.
