Abstract

Within the framework of the joint project with Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand) on Action toward Resource-Efficient and Low Carbon Cities in Asia, Hue City has undertaken a Bilan Carbone analysis to make an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions produced in its territory. The data used for the analysis were collected from Statistical Yearbook 2011 and from relevant administrative units of Hue City. The final analysis shows that the travel by people, the residential sector and the tertiary sector of the economy contribute most to the total carbon footprint of the city in 2011, in which the travel accounts for the largest share (66,655 tons of CO2 equivalent); the residential is ranked second with 62,480 tons of CO2 equivalent; and the tertiary is the third (40,371 tons of CO2 equivalent). Some scientific and realistic interpretations on such setorial findings are also presented with an aim to facilitate the next step to initiate and carry out associated GHG mitigation measures for the city.
