Drought situation in period 2000–2019 in Le Thuy and Quang Ninh districts, Quang Binh province

Abstract

The drought index calculated from the results of rainfall measurements, satellite evaporation, and monitoring stations is used to build a map of aridity zoning in Le Thuy district and Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province, with GIS technology based on Circular 14/2012/TT-BTNMT on technical regulations concerning land degradation investigation. Then, we evaluate the drought in the period of 2000–2019. Every year, drought occurs 4–6 months, primarily from May to July. Heavy drought takes place in the mountainous and coastal sandy areas in the Summer-Autumn crop. The results enable the managers to identify dry areas with different degrees of dryness, thereby offering more rational and effective land-use solutions.
