Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the results of ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change (EbA) in agriculture in the lagoon system of Thua Thien Hue province. Three main methods were used to collect data: in-depth interviews with key informants (n = 10), focus group discussion (n = 4), and household interviews                  (n = 60). The research results show that in Tam Giang-Cau Hai ecosystem, there are several sub-ecosystems that include: lagoon sub-ecosystem, along lagoon sub-ecosystem, home-garden sub-ecosystem, sandhill sub-ecosystem, and sandy soil agricultural sub-ecosystem. 11 EbAs have been identified and applied by households, in which EbA planting mangroves, agroforestry, converting drought-tolerant crops, crop rotation/intercropping and crop diversification are EbA with high potential for development; EbA conversion of intensive to integrated aquacultural production, converting of salty rice areas to lotus cultivation, livestock diversification, livestock production toward climate smart agriculture, community tourism-based lagoon are potential and EbA cultured fish in moving cages is little potential. In the future, mangrove forests, agroforestry, suitable crop conversion, and adjustment of aquacultural production forms are the EbA that need to be promoted and replicated.
