Abstract

A gold-copper film on the glassy-carbon electrode can be used to determine the trace amount of HgII by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry. The gold-copper film was in-situ deposited onto the glassy-carbon electrode surface in an aqueous solution containing HgII, HClO4 5 × 10-3 M, AuIII 0.2 mg/L, and CuII 0.05 mg/L at –1100 mV. In comparison with the gold film/glassy carbon electrode, this electrode has better repeatability while using a smaller amount of gold for film-forming. The HgII detection limit is 0.09 mg/L at a deposition time of 250 s. The repeatability of Ip is very good (n = 20) even at a very low concentration of HgII (5 mg/L, RSD = 2.6%).
