Abstract

Rice is an important food crop, occupying a high percentage of the cultivated area in the South Central Coastal provinces. Currently, the demand for processed rice varieties to export is increasing, but there is a shortage of these new rice varieties in the practice for domestic production. Therefore, this study aimed to select short-duration rice lines with high yield and amylose content for processing. The experiment was conducted in the Summer-Autumn 2025 season in Gia Lai province on 7 rice lines originating from the Agricultural Science Institute for Southern Coastal Central Vietnam and a control rice variety, arranged in a completely randomized block design with 3 replications. The research results showed that the growth duration of rice lines was in short duration group (94-105 days), suitable for the cropping system in Gia Lai province. All rice lines had agro-biological characteristics such as concentrated flowering time, high field purity, complete panicle emergence, strong stems, and less pests and diseases damages. The highest grain yields were achieved in lines P464 (72.05 quintals/ha) and P620 (74.10 quintals/ha). Quality indicators (amylose content, protein, starch, gelatinization temperature, gel durability, grain quality were high, with amylose content exceeding 25% in all experimental lines. Lines P464 and P620 have short duration, high yields, and high amylose contents, therefore, they are recommended for further evaluation in the next season to serve future breeding purposes.
