Abstract

This study was conducted on the basis of data collected through a survey of 400 Japanese tourists in Hue using structured questionnaires. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the tourism destination’s attractiveness of Hue by applying destination attribute model to measure the attractiveness of the destination based on tourists’ opinions. The results show that although the historical, culinary, and cultural attractions are highly valued, the festivals/events, shopping and entertainment activities are not sufficient. These factors combined with language barriers and other constraints have reduced the attractiveness of Hue in the perceptions of Japanese tourists. In order to increase the destination’s attractiveness of Hue, it is completely necessary to invest in developing shopping services, diversifying entertainment activities and events, improving tourism workers’ professionalism and language skills, as well as enhancing environmental sanitation to better meet the needs of Japanese tourists.
