Abstract

Tourism activities can generate numerous benefits for residents, but also pose negative impacts. Resident support is crucial for the successful and sustainable development of tourism. This study explores the effect of seasonality on residents' perceptions of tourism impacts and their support for tourism development in Chau Doc, An Giang. Using in-depth interviews and field observations, the findings indicate that residents perceive the impacts of tourism more positively than negatively. Resident support for tourism is high, primarily due to the perceived economic and socio-cultural benefits. Residents support tourism development and accept the drawbacks of seasonality in light of the perceived benefits. These finding results provide a basis for proposing a theoretical model to examine the mediating role of tourism impacts in the relationship between seasonality and resident support for tourism development. The paper also offers recommendations to promote sustainable tourism development by minimizing negative impacts, and fostering residents’ support.
