Abstract

This study investigates the factors influencing residents’ support for sustainable tourism development in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam. The research model is grounded in Social Exchange Theory (SET), Place Attachment Theory (PAT), and Community-Based Tourism Theory (CBT), and hypothesizes relationships among residents’ participation, place attachment, perceived benefits, quality of life, and support for sustainable tourism development. Valid data collected from 310 local residents were analyzed using the PLS-SEM approach. The results indicate that residents’ participation positively affects both place attachment (β = 0.32) and support for sustainable tourism development (β = 0.29). Notably, quality of life emerges as the strongest predictor of support (β = 0.42). These findings highlight the pivotal role of residents’ participation and quality of life in fostering positive attitudes and strengthening community support for sustainable tourism development.
