Abstract

In recent years, the focus of researches on teachers' professional development  to statistics teaching were not only on statistical content knowledge but also on other general knowledge forms applied in teaching practice. In this study, we described prospective mathematics teachers' knowledge types to teaching mean and median from histograms. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of items designed according to six types of teachers’ knowledge of the  model of mathematical knowledge for teaching by Ball, Thames, Phelps (2008). The results of the study initially showed that inadequate and solid understanding of content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge of prospective mathematics teachers related to teaching mean, median from histograms. Finally, some suggestions for teaching and teacher training were proposed to development professional competencies for prospective mathematics teachers in pedagogical universities.
