Abstract
Learning Management System, or shortly known as LMS, has been considered as one of the effective tools to facilitate online learning, especially in higher education. This paper presents the findings from a study investigating the teachers and students’ use and evaluation of LMS in online learning at University of Foreign Languages, Hue University. A survey was carried out with the participation of 14 teachers and 130 students at the Faculty of English to find out how they use the LMS named HUCFL.ONLINE in online learning during social distance time and how they evaluate the LMS based on a range of criteria. The findings show that there were similarities in the teachers and students’ use of the LMS in terms of frequency, amount of time spent on LMS and use of the mobile app. However, teachers and students were clearly different in their preference of frequently-used activities on LMS. There were also some certain differences in the use of LMS among teachers based on their years of teaching experience and areas of teaching expertise. Meanwhile, there were no differences in the use of LMS among students. In addition, when evaluating the current LMS in use, both teachers and students indicated that they were satisfied and highly appreciated most aspects of the LMS including its interface, course organization, functionality, etc. However, they were disappointed with the speed and stability of the LMS, which causes some inconvenience in use and needs further improvement.
